SUMMARY:Tai Chi and the I Ching: A Journey of Reflection and Insight
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\n\nThe I Ching\, or Book of Changes\, is one of the world's oldest systems of wisdom. Blending philosophy\, symbolism\, and contemplation\, it offers a unique framework for self-reflection and understanding life's transitions.\n\nIn this introductory workshop\, longtime Tai Chi and Qigong instructor Mark will guide participants through gentle breathing and energy practices designed to harmonize body and mind. Following these exercises\, participants will learn the traditional practice of casting three coins to generate an I Ching hexagram and explore its meaning in relation to a personal question or area of focus.\n\nParticipants may choose to reflect on:\n\nPersonal health and well-being\n\nRelationships and life circumstances\n\nTheir connection to larger patterns and cycles of change\n\nThe I Ching is not a system of fortune-telling\, but rather a tool for insight\, contemplation\, and decision-making. Through the lens of synchronicity (a concept popularized by psychologist Carl Jung) it invites us to notice meaningful patterns and deepen our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.\n\nThis introductory session will provide an accessible foundation for understanding the symbolism of I Ching hexagrams and their role in personal reflection\, while exploring the deep connection between movement\, awareness\, and the ancient wisdom of change.\n\nThis is a free event. Registration is not required.\n\nAbout the Facilitator:\n\nMark has been studying and teaching Chinese internal arts since the age of nineteen. His lifelong practice includes Tai Chi Chuan\, Hsing I Chuan\, Bagua Chuan\, Liuhebafa\, and Qigong. Over more than four decades\, he has taught throughout Western North Carolina and beyond\, authored articles on internal martial arts\, and presented workshops for organizations including the National Qigong Association\, the U.S. Kuoshu Federation\, and the Coastal Atlantic Chinese Martial Arts Association.\n\nAs founder of Mountain Dragon Kung Fu School\, Mark has dedicated his life to sharing the health\, meditative\, and philosophical traditions of Chinese internal arts. Now based in Black Mountain\, he continues teaching throughout the Swannanoa Valley and serves as a member of the Healing Arts team supporting Emberlight families.\n\nCommunity Hub projects are funded in part by a grant from the American Red Cross\, and a grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund.
